A suspected drunk driver took police on a 10 mile slow speed chase tonight.
It started around 6:30 this evening near Coulter Field in Bryan. Several people called police reporting a man driving his pick-up erratically.
A DPS trooper spotted the driver in Kurten, and that's where the chase began. Five patrol cars joined in reaching speeds of only 50 miles an hour.
DPS says the driver weaved in out of oncoming traffic and almost caused a head-on collision before he eventually pulled over.
"On multiple occasions he was all over the road way. When he finally came to a stop on the bridge, I was able to jump out of my vehicle, and he started going again and we went back and forth, and I was able to get him out of the vehicle before he took off again," said Trooper Kevin Smith with the DPS.
Authorities arrested J. Guadalupe Hernandez of Iola for driving while intoxicated and evading arrest. Hernandez reportedly blew a .214 on a breathalizer which is almost three times the legal limit. This is his third DWI arrest.
