TDCJ Van Carrying Inmates Crashes in Walker County

WALKER COUNTY - Five TDCJ prisoners are recovering after the van they were riding in collided with a pickup truck on Highway 19 Wednesday afternoon.

The pickup entered the highway in front of the van, causing the two to crash.

The prisoners on board were part of a maintenance crew and were being taken back to the Ellis Unit when the accident happened.

Two of them, along with the van's driver, had to be taken by helicopter to a Houston hospital.

The other three inmates were taken to the hospital in Huntsville.

None of them were seriously hurt.
