AUSTIN - The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) Thursday approved Flood Protection Planning grants in the amount of $900,000. The grants will assist local governments in developing flood protection plans for entire major or minor watersheds
Those receiving grants today were the City of Georgetown, the Brazos River Authority, the City of Conroe and the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority. The communities and river authorities receiving grants will use the funds to study and analyze flood problems in their areas and identify feasible solutions to flooding hazards.
The TWDB has awarded 127 Flood Protection Planning grants totaling nearly $20,350,000 since 1983.
The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning and preparing the State Water Plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
