An accident on Highway 21 near North Zulch in Madison County left two people dead Friday.

According to TxDOT, the crash happened between a tractor trailer rig and pickup truck.

Authorities say two brothers from Bryan, 17-year-old Dusty Holladay and 20-year-old Blake Holladay, were heading eastbound in the pickup truck when they veered off the road and over-corrected, hitting the 18-wheeler head on. After impact, the 18-wheeler went through a fence almost hitting a nearby home.

Both brothers died in the accident. The driver of the 18-wheeler has been taken to the hospital.

"We don't know at this time whether he was speeding, above the posted speed limit however, again, it is a driver error. He left the roadway and then came back onto the roadway, so that's not normal driving tactic,” said Sgt. Henry Scarbrough with The Department of Public Safety. "It's a two lane roadway so it may be a little bit more challenging for some drivers. They need to pay a little bit more attention, maybe watch your speed a little bit more. The road itself is not inherently any more dangerous than any other two lane roadway in the state of Texas."

Highway 21 was reopened around 12:15 p.m.

A fund has been established at First Victoria Bank to help the Holladay family. Checks should be made out to Debra Holladay Memorial Fund for Blake Holladay and Dusty Holladay.

Deposits can be made at any First Victoria Branch in the Bryan-College Station area or mailed to First Victoria Bank,1004 Copperfield Pkwy, College Station, TX 77845.
