A Texas Christian University student has been charged with evidence tampering in connection with the death of the grandson of billionaire T. Boone Pickens.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Monday that 21-year-old Brennan Trainor Rodriguez is accused of removing evidence from an apartment and hiding it from police investigating the death of Thomas "Ty" Boone Pickens IV.

The newspaper said court documents identified the evidence as heroin, drug paraphernalia, syringes and marijuana. Tampering with evidence with intent to impair an investigation is a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The Star-Telegram said Bruce Ashworth, Rodriguez's attorney, declined to comment.

Pickens, a 21-year-old TCU junior, died Jan. 29. A ruling on the cause and manner of death is still pending.
