Taxis in High Demand New Year's Eve

This year is no exception since the slick roads plus New Years libations are a dangerous combination for drivers this New Years Eve.

Chris Ede is owner of Aggieland Cab, the oldest cab company in town. He says people were making taxi reservations over the phone all day Monday.

“A lot of people who don't usually go out go out,” said Ede. “We will be running 4 cabs today just to make sure people who need cabs will be able to get one.”

Maroon Cab driver Joseph Sarver was also expecting a busy night.

“We know in B/CS, most people are set on having a safe night so they usually call cabs,” said Sarver.

Maroon Cab reservations were full early Monday afternoon.

New Year’s parties will go on rain or shine, so these drivers say calling a cab is the safe and smart thing to do.

“If you start the New Year in jail, it’s not worth it,” said Ede.

Local cab drivers say most customers will be traveling to and from Northgate.

Another reason not to drink and drive this New Years is local law enforcement agencies are stepping up their drunk driving patrols. Six people were charged with D-W-I last night across Brazos County.
