Solomon Harris, a 15-year-old Temple High School student who shot himself in the head Tuesday on the school campus died overnight in a Temple hospital.
Brad Sheffield, spokesman for Temple Independent School District, told News 10 Harris died early Thursday morning at Scott & White Hospital.
Harris had been in extremely critical condition in ICU at Scott and White since Tuesday morning when police say he shot himself in the head while standing near the tennis courts on the high school campus.
Temple police Cpl. Christopher Wilcox said police recovered a handgun at the scene of the shooting.
Temple ISD confirmed Wednesday Harris was a member of the school's ROTC program.
School administrators were looking into reports of possible bullying.
The teenager was taken by ambulance Tuesday from the scene to Scott & White with what Wilcox described as "a very serious life threatening injury."
The school was immediately locked down after the incident, but the lockdown was lifted at around 10:30 a.m. after the scene was deemed safe and classes continued as usual, a school district spokesman said.
Wilcox said several teachers and staff members both heard and saw the incident and they were being interviewed by police Tuesday morning.
Grief counselors were on hand at the school to speak with both students and faculty.
