HOUSTON (AP) A missing 17-year-old girl has been found dead in a Houston bayou and police say her boyfriend killed the teen because she wanted to date someone else.
Houston police say the 19-year-old suspect was being held Thursday facing a formal capital murder charge.
Detective Fil Waters says the boyfriend drew a map to where officers Wednesday night located the body of 17-year-old Vy Ngoc Bao-Pham. She was the subject of an Amber Alert and had been missing since Monday. Authorities have ordered an autopsy.
Police say the victim's family received a bogus text message demanding $50,000 for the teen's safe return.
Online jail records Thursday did not immediately provide custody information on the suspect
