MIDLAND, Texas (AP) A West Texas man faces up to 20 years in prison for using his vehicle to try to kill a law enforcement officer.
Prosecutors in Midland say 21-year-old Zachery Madrid of Odessa pleaded guilty Monday to attempted murder of a federal agent. No sentencing date was immediately set for Madrid, who remains in custody.
Prosecutors dropped another count of attempted murder of a federal agent and two counts of assault.
Madrid on April 4 was sought for having a stolen car, an unauthorized handgun and drugs, plus various state warrants. Officers located Madrid in Odessa when he drove his vehicle toward an agent. The officer jumped to safety.
Madrid was captured April 25 when he again drove toward an officer who managed to get out of the way.
