Recent Aggie Grad Remains in Coma After Accident

A 23-year-old Texas A&M graduate is fighting for her life.

Amanda Hoffman was critically injured in a car accident last week while on her way to a waterskiing tournament.

News 3 spoke with Amanda's mom and best friend who say the Aggie spirit is helping them during this difficult time.

Amanda Hoffman has been in a coma for almost a week.

"She's just amazing. She's smart, she's beautiful, she's funny, she's the light of anyone's world who know her," said Samantha Stern, Amanda's best friend.

Hoffman just graduated from A&M and was the team captain of the school's club waterski team. Friday morning her plans to compete at a waterski tournament in North Carolina went on hold after she and two teammates were in a car crash east of Jackson, Mississippi.

Amanda was sleeping in the backseat without a seat belt on and was thrown from the car suffering a severe brain injury.

Samantha Stern is leaving her job in Bryan to stay with Amanda's mom in Mississippi for the recovery.

"I know it's going to be difficult to see but she would do it for me and I have absolutely no question about that," said Stern.

After our initial report and even a Tweet by Texas A&M President R. Bowen Loftin more than $10,000 has been raised to help the Hoffmans.

Diana Hoffman is grateful for the Aggie network and prayers .

"Thank you everyone who donated. It's not about the money but I'm sure going to need help in all areas of her care," said Diana Hoffman by phone from Jackson, MS.

As Samantha Stern is preparing to move she hopes to train Amanda's dog Sophia into a therapy dog for her recovery.

"You can never guarantee anything with the body, but we're praying she'll wake up when the doctors want her to wake up," said Stern.

Signs of support for a woman and Aggie who's brightened so many lives.

Amanda is still in intensive care at a hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.

Doctors say she is making progress.

No one else in the car was seriously injured.
