A representative from the Texas A&M Veterinary Emergency Team says that a team has been dispatched by the state to respond to the Wednesday’s massive explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, TX.

Angela Clendenin is a member of that team, and she tells News 3 that the TAMU Veterinary Emergency Team will provide veterinary care for search and rescue animals used by first responders, as well as for pets and domestic animals injured or affected by the blast. They will also be prepared to decontaminate animals affected by chemical exposure to anhydrous ammonia, the chemical released from the plant.

Clendenin says at least eleven team members will be making the trip, and there is no timeline set yet for when they’ll be able to return home or how long they’ll be treating animals in West.
