A&M to Begin Fogging for Mosquitoes

In an email to Texas A&M students, faculty and staff, John Salsman the Director of Health and Safety at A&M warned of an increasing number of mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus and the University's plans for fogging. Below is an email that went out Monday:

To address the mosquito population and reduce the risks of West Nile Virus, Texas A&M University will ground fog for mosquitoes in the early morning hours on Wednesday, September 19, 2012. Areas to be fogged include creek beds, storm drains and heavily foliaged areas. If weather conditions change, the fogging effort will be rescheduled. Any change in the schedule will be announced to the campus community.

This effort is being coordinated with the Brazos County Health Department (BCHD). As such, further ground fogging will be initiated if there are mosquitoes trapped by BCHD which test positive for West Nile Virus.

Individuals on campus should continue to protect themselves from West Nile Virus by following these simple steps:
• Avoid standing water
• Wear insect-repellant that contains DEET • Avoid outdoor activities at dusk and dawn, the most active times for mosquitoes • Dress in long sleeves and pants when outdoors
