Texas Department of Banking Determines Local Businesses Can't Charge Debit Fee

BRYAN - The Texas Department of Banking is stepping in on some local companies charging debit card fees.

The state agency told us that some local businesses charging a 49 cent processing fee is illegal, and they are working on a plan to address it.

In March complaints were filed against Jesse's Taqueria in Bryan, Shipley Donuts by the Bryan Target, Cici's Pizza in College Station and La Bodega on the fee which was banned by the Texas Legislature last year.

The Department of Banking is contacting consumers who filed the complaints as well as the businesses and their processor to address the problem.

More information from the agency is expected early next week on how they will respond.
