Police in the Milam County town of Cameron will be getting some new high tech equipment this fall thanks to a grant from the Governor's office.

A $59,000 will help pay for patrol car computer systems, replace police laptop servers, and provide for small, wearable cameras for officers to mount on their uniforms so that they can record their interactions during traffic stops and to prevent unwarranted allegations against police officers.

Cameron's police chief Randy Dixon tells News 3 that the grant will give them a "tremendous boost" as far as their ability to fight and prosecute crimes. The cameras will be given to each of Cameron's 10 officers at a cost of around $9,000 total. The rest of the grant will provide for the electronics upgrades as well as for ballistic helmets and shields.
