SHORE ACRES, Texas - - Changing weather patterns are forcing the vast, diverse state of Texas to adapt while Gov. Rick Perry disputes scientists' claims the phenomenon is largely manmade.
Waters are rising along the Texas coast, drought conditions are again spreading and rising temperatures are helping to evaporate reservoirs throughout the state.
Texas A&M AgriLife bioenergy program director Bob Avant says while no one knows if the changes are permanent, the state still needs to prepare.
So ranchers and farmers are looking for more efficient seed, plants and cows. Coastal communities are building higher to protect against the rising water levels. And the state wants to invest billions of dollars in infrastructure to ensure enough water for the future.
