With last week's release of year-end presidential contribution data, we return with an update to our ZIP code donor application, which allows readers to explore where each major candidate received support across the state.
Despite having only four and a half months of time active as a presidential candidate in 2011, Gov. Rick Perry took advantage of his well-established fundraising network and overwhelmingly outperformed his opponents, raising $10.8 million last year. Perry's haul represents half of the total money given in Texas to all candidates ($21.6 million).
After Perry, President Obama had the second biggest pick-up in Texas with $3.7 million. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul are the only other candidates to break through $1 million, raising $3 million and $1.5 million, respectively.
