COLLEGE STATION A Bryan woman is accused of taking money from a Post Oak Mall shop in its final days.
Jessica Martinez, 27, is alleged by police to have pocketed more than $1,500 from the King of Sweets kiosk at the College Station mall in July of last year, making the theft charge a state jail felony.
According to store management and employees, Martinez was the only person with access to the safe and was responsible for making deposits at a bank, yet bank records showed the last deposit was July 9, 2013. The kiosk closed on July 28, 2013.
Sales transactions reportedly showed $1,908 was the total missing from during those days.
Police say bank records from May and June of that year showed consistent deposits.
A theft report was filed on July 29, 2013 by the store's executive manager, according to authorities, who note in their report that Martinez refused to speak with them or return phone calls.
Martinez was confined in the Brazos County Jail Friday. She remained there as of early Sunday afternoon. It is her seventh stay there since the middle of 2010.
