Cow in Road Causes 3-Vehicle Pile Up

Updated: Fri 9:11 AM, Nov 02, 2012

The Department of Public Safety is investigating a three car crash involving 15 people on FM 50 in Burleson County.

It happened around around 10:30 Wednesday night. The students say they were driving from the Blinn Campus in Brenham to visit friends in College Station.

Officials tell us that there were five occupants in each car and that they were traveling too close together.

The first car then struck a cow in the middle of the road which created a chain reaction causing all of the vehicles to crash into one another.

“This lady was coming the opposite direction and started flashing her lights. I looked down to see if my brights were on and they weren't. I looked up and there was a cow in front of me,” said Alysson Woytek, the driver of the first vehicle.

Katherine Reyna was a passenger in the second vehicle.

“When we were explaining it to our parents, they saw it as a joke. They said, "Wait you hit a cow? And I said, “Yes, I hit a cow,”” said Reyna.

One female victim was sent to St. Joesph Health System and another male victim was sent to Scott & White in Brenham, both with minor injuries.

The road was shut down for about an hour but was back open late Wednesday night.
