More information continues to emerge in a theft ring that has been operating in 11 Texas Counties, including Brazos.
So far more than $150,000, including at least 10 stolen ATV’s stolen from at least 11 different counties have been recovered in the last month.
A maroon Polaris All-Terrain Ranger ATV valued at $12,000 and a Green John Deere Trail Buck 4-wheeler valued at $8,000 are the latest to be recovered in Brazos County.
Brazos County Sheriff Chief Deputy Jim Stewart says the pair of ATV’s were stolen from a ranch located on Long Trussel Road in East Brazos County.
The theftt was reported at 9:57 a.m. on January 12th.; the ATV's were subsequently recovered nearly one month later.
Aaron Keith Cannon, Jordan Davis Cook and Cory Middleton have been arrested for their involvement in what police say includes more than $150,000 of stolen property. According to Stewart, warrants were issued in Brazos County for Middleton’s arrest last week; however, apprehending the 24-year-old was anything but easy.
“We learned there were some surveillance techniques used by Mr. Middleton and he was able to observe our investigators approaching his house and so he took off from the back of the house,” explained Brazos County Sheriff Chief Deputy Jim Stewart.
After several hours of searching, Texas Department of Public Safety Rangers were called in, as well as a DPS helicopter.
“We used the helicopter to further our search the area and as we learned he was pretty well hidden in a creek behind the property," said Stewart. "Night-fall came and we ceased that operation and so we regrouped and worked our sources for additional information and we were able to locate the suspects who were trying to help him [Middleton] get out of the area, and we set up a surveillance operation and were finally able to arrest him that way.”
Stewart says BCSO investigators are still looking for at least six more ATV's. More warrants are expected to be issued in the coming days.
"It’s kind of hard when you maintain the level of profile they have,” said Stewart. “And you know, ultimately they’re going to get caught.”
