COLLEGE STATION – Motorists driving north on Highway 6 will be able to exit at University Drive (FM 60) for the first time in three months.
The Texas Department of Transportation is reopening the exit and entrance ramps between Harvey Road (Hwy 30) and University on Thursday. They have been closed since April 15.
On Friday, TxDOT will close the next stretch of exit and entrance ramps on northbound Highway 6 between University and Briarcrest Drive (FM1179). New ramps will be built.
The left lane of the northbound frontage road between University and Briarcrest will also be closed so crews can widen the road for a future auxiliary lane between the two new ramps.
The speed limit in the construction zone will be reduced to 60 mph.
The closures and speed zone are expected to be in place for approximately three months. The work is part of the $9.6 million dollar SH 6 Ramps Project. The project is scheduled to be completed by spring of 2015.
