The two Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate have repeatedly torn into each other during a third debate as early voting began across Texas.
Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and former state Solicitor General Ted Cruz lobbed barbs Monday night at a debate in Houston sponsored by a tea party organization, the King Street Patriots.
The slugfest came as early voting started ahead of the July 31 runoff for the GOP nomination to replace retiring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. No more debates are scheduled.
The pair is in a fierce and expensive race. Both sides have launched vicious attacks in radio and television commercials in recent weeks.
They attacked each other's records and campaign literature Monday, and Cruz twice interrupted Dewhurst to correct his debate answers.
