AUSTIN — Texas wide receiver Kendall Sanders was arrested early Saturday morning on a charge of driving while intoxicated, according to Brazos County sheriff records.
Sanders, 18, was booked by the Texas A&M police department at 5:10 a.m. on Saturday and released at on a $3,000 bond at 7:43 a.m.
During spring practice, the rising sophomore from Athens emerged as one of the favorites for UT’s No. 3 receiver spot behind Mike Davis and Jaxon Shipley.
Cayleb Jones, another sophomore receiver who had designs on that role, was suspended from the team last month after being charged with aggravated assault for allegedly punching a UT tennis player in a dispute involving a former girlfriend.
UT coach Mack Brown issued a statement Sunday morning saying the Longhorns “take a strong stance against drinking and driving,” but did not immediately suspend Sanders.
“Following the completion of the legal process, we will do what’s best for the university, Kendall and the team,” Brown’s statement said. “One thing we have great pride in about our program is our family atmosphere and there also will be discipline handled within our family.”
