BRYAN - Traditions Club in Bryan could be days away from breaking the world record for the largest gingerbread house.
"The world record was set in 2006 in St. Paul-Minneapolis in the mall, the large mall. Their record was 36,600 cubic feet," said Traditions Club General Manager Bill Horton.
Horton says the gingerbread house in Bryan will be 2,000 cubic feet larger. The edible house will be made of 11,000 pounds of gingerbread and 23,000 pieces of candy.
Construction began in early November, and the official record is intended to be broken on November 30, 2013.
So far, more than 200 volunteers have helped with the project, baking the gingerbread and decorating the interior of the house.
"Our vision was always to build the world's largest gingerbread house, but the mission has been to raise as much money as possible for St. Joseph Trauma Program.
The goal this year is to raise more than $200,000 for the trauma program at the St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
