Brazos County Residents should get new Voter Registration cards in the coming days as 76,000 cards were mailed out, Thursday. Usually the cards are issued at the first of the year, but the redistricting battle caused a delay. Election officials are now trying to educate the public about the May 29, 2012 primaries, with a special visit from the Texas Secretary of State.

“We are fully prepared to assist in the administration of the upcoming primaries,” said Hope Andrade, Secretary of State.

After a nearly 4 month delay, Texas election officials say they're ready for the May 29, 2012 primaries, which usually take place in March, but were pushed back because of the battle over redistricting. The state is now starting up a campaign to educate voters.

The Statewide Voter Education effort, "Make Your Mark on Texas" has been launched and Andrade made her first stop of 40 at the Brazos County Administration Building. Andrade is hoping to dispel myths and educate voters about the Texas voting process.

The state is using social media to spread the new message. Andrade hopes younger voters and those who usually avoid the polls will get educated and involved.

"Retweet it. Go viral. If they take their picture at one of our press conferences it's going to up on the largest digital flag that we've got on Facebook,” said Andrade, "Sometimes people think voting is too difficult. It's easy."

Registered voters in Brazos County should get their Voter Registration Cards in the next few days.

"It should be anytime in the next week. If it's beyond next week they really need to go ahead and start contacting us. Because we want to get the corrections in and get their cards out to them in time for the election,” said Kristeen Roe, Brazos County Voter Registrar.

Election officials are remaining positive that the delayed primary won’t have a negative effect on voter turnout.

"I'm going to stay optimistic,” said Andrade.
