Wakeboard Park Coming To South College Station

Updated: Thu 5:57 AM, May 10, 2012

College Station City Council unanimously approved rezoning property in South College Station for a future wakeboard facility.

The council approved rezoning 108 acres at 3100 Haupt Road in South College Station between Old Wellborn Road and Holleman Drive South.

According to College Station city officials, the property has plans to be used as a commercial wakeboard ski facility, administrative offices, and a maximum 3,500 square foot of restaurants and retail stores.

The facility would be an amenity to a planned student housing complex.

Last year, the council rejected the wakeboard facility when the developers, Heath and Wallace Phillips, proposed the plan. According to a city spokesperson, city council members said they wanted more information with a smaller scale facility.

At the last city council meeting, on April 26, the item was brought to the council for the second time with changes. That included layout changes in order to incorporate an open waterway/drainage easement through the center of the development. Also the layout has more townhomes taking direct access to local streets as opposed to access by alleys.
