A Walker County Grand Jury has indicted a Huntsville man charged with two felonies.

Stephen Deeward Gambrell is charged with assaulting a public servant and evading arrest in connection with a traffic stop that happened last year during September.

Police say Gambrell led police on a 200-yard foot chase that ended with the officer tackling Gambrell. During the skirmish that followed, the officer says he was punched twice in the face.

After Gambrell was taken into custody, investigators search his Buick LaSabre that was left parked in the middle of the street blocking traffic on Sowell and Gospel Hill Roads off Highway 75. Inside the vehicle, investigators found marijuana and say that is the reason Gambrell ran from the officer.

Assault of a public servant is punishable by up to ten years in prison and up to a$10,000. For the other charge, Gambrell also faces jail time and additional fines.
