A little more than a month after Washington County Deputy Art Senteno ran into burning home and saved the homeowner inside, Thursday he was award the Life Saving Medal by his peers.

Capt. Claude Free with the Washington County Sheriff's says Senteno earned the recognition because while saving the life of person, he put his own life in danger.

On March 2nd, when Senteno arrived at the home on Tigerpoint Road, a 76-year-old man was trapped inside and yelling for help. The door frame was on fire and flames were quickly engulfing the rest of the home. Senteno followed the man's voice to a back room and pulled him to safety. Deputy Sentenio was treated for smoke inhalation and returned to duty a short time later.

Free tells News 3 that he's proud of Senteno's accomplishment while in the line of duty and that the deputy has been humbled by all of the public praise he has received for his act of valor.
