A 48-year-old Willis woman died after the truck she was in went off the road and struck a tree.

Sheryl Gross was one of three people inside the pickup, and died at the scene of the crash.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers report Robert Kendall, driver of a 1997 Dodge Dakota, was traveling north on Longstreet Road in Willis around 10:45 p.m. Sunday. Troopers say Kendall was speeding, couldn't make a 90 degree turn, ran off the road and hit a tree.

PHI medics and first responders treated Kendall at the scene before flying him to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston in critical condition.

The third occupant of the truck, 36-year-old Ronald Murray, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Conroe Regional Hospital in stable condition.

Alcohol was found at the scene, but it hasn't been determined if it was a factor in the crash. DPS troopers and officials from the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office Vehicular Crimes Unit are investigating.

Gross' body was taken for an autopsy at the Montgomery County Forensic Center.
