KILLEEN, Texas - Killeen Police are investigating after a woman was found dead inside a smoke-filled hotel room.
Police officers responded to reports of smoke coming from a room at the Palace Inn on East Veterans Memorial Boulevard. in Killeen around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
One of the hotel employees used a master key card to enter the room and found a woman inside unconscious and the room filled with smoke.
The woman was later pronounced dead by Judge Cooke, who ordered an autopsy to be performed.
The fire had put itself out by the time firefighters arrived on scene.
The exact cause of the woman's death and the cause of the fire are both under investigation.
No other injuries were reported.
