PORTER HEIGHTS, Texas The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says a woman thought she was shooting at an intruder, trying to break into her home. It turned out to be her next door neighbor.
The 64-year-old woman called 911 about 9:30 Monday night saying she had shot an intruder trying to break into home on Yaupon Lane in Porter Heights. She says she heard a noise at her front door and saw the figure of a man outside. She grabbed her gun and yelled at the man, saying she would shoot if he didn’t leave. When the man tried to come in anyway, she fired through the door, hitting him twice. The man was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, in Houston, where he was pronounced dead.
The Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who was shot as 27 year old Samuel Keen, the woman’s next door neighbor. The Sam Houston State graduate was also a Houston firefighter and a Marine.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Keen had been out drinking with friends and had taken a cab home from the bar. They believe Keen was intoxicated when he arrived at his neighbor’s house.
No charges have been filed against the woman. The case will be presented to a Grand Jury.
