Updated: 5:08 AM Crews were working to assess the damage at a Valero refinery where a fire on Friday sent 19 people to the hospital. Company spokeswoman Mary Rose Brown said yesterday that the McKee refinery in Sunray remained a "highly sensitive area" and access remained restricted. She didn't know how extensive the damage was or how long it would take to repair the facility.

Updated: 5:05 AM At least 101 inmates died in the custody of the Harris County Jail between January 2001 to December 2006. That's according to a Houston Chronicle review of state and county records published yesterday. The newspaper said that at least 72 of the inmates had been awaiting court hearings and had yet to be convicted of the crimes that led to their incarceration at the time of their deaths.

Posted: 9:58 PM AUSTIN (AP) - Doctors, public health experts and cervical cancer survivors are expected to testify tomorrow at a public hearing on legislation aimed at overriding the governor's HPV vaccine mandate. The bill by state Representative Dennis Bonnen -- a Republican from Angleton -- would bar the state from requiring schoolgirls to be inoculated against the human papillomavirus, or HPV.

Among the items on their agenda: calling for a bond election on the May 12 ballot. Authorities say Craig Lee Parrish of Rosebud was northbound on F.M. 487 when he lost control of his car while going around a curve.
