2 state search ends with fugitive's capture

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A two-state search has ended with the
apprehension of a man described as "armed and extremely
dangerous" who allegedly attacked a police officer and stole an
undercover vehicle.

Authorities say 19-year-old Fernando Lavenant Jr. was shot by an
El Paso, Texas, sheriff's officer and taken to the hospital
Thursday evening.

The Las Cruces Sun-News (http://bit.ly/pLyHfv ) reports no
further details were immediately available about the confrontation,
which came less than eight hours after Lavenant allegedly attacked
an El Paso sheriff's detective attempting to serve a search
warrant.

Lavenant was able to overpower the detective and drive away in
the detective's unmarked dark SUV, possibly to New Mexico.

Lavenant's escape prompted a multi-agency response in Dona Ana
County.
