SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The five-year-old girl injured in the same house fire that killed former state Senator Frank Madla and his mother-in-law died Saturday.
University Hospital spokeswoman Lauren Graham said the family of Aleena Jimenez, Madla's granddaughter, took the girl off life support Saturday afternoon.
Helen Madla, Frank's wife and the fourth person injured in the fire, remained in stable condition.
Firefighters were able to pull Helen Madla, Aleena and Mary Cruz, Frank Madla's mother-in-law, from the house Friday, but only Helen Madla and Aleena had survived at the time.
Officials said the house went up in flames after a holiday celebration that included a large display of candles.
Madla, who was 69, resigned in May after losing to state Rep. Carlos Uresti in the March Democratic primary. He served 20 years in the Texas House and another 13 in the Senate.
