DALLAS (AP) - A district judge has cancelled a hearing for the Dallas County district attorney who's facing an allegation of contempt of court.
Judge Bob Brotherton on Monday agreed with lawyers for District Attorney Craig Watkins that a previous judge erred by not listing the punishment when she originally cited him for contempt.
He could receive jail time if found guilty of the charge.
The matter will now go back before the original judge, Lena Levario, for a hearing scheduled for later Monday.
Watkins has refused to answer questions about his office's prosecution of an oil heir for mortgage fraud.
Levario has said the FBI has asked for access to records in the case.
Watkins has been district attorney since 2007. He's built a reputation as an advocate for the wrongfully convicted.
