AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Save the bees, please.

About 30,000 bees living in a large oak along a Central Texas highway will get a new home instead of being destroyed.

Expert Randy Oakley has been working to trap and move the bees from a tree near U.S. 183 in Austin.

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority hired Oakley, who used a decoy hive Tuesday to try to attract the bees. Oakley will be paid about $1,300 for the relocation that comes as authority officials study ways to protect large trees along roadways.

The Austin American-Statesman reports the bees will be moved to a farm near Robinson.

Oakley says more people are seeking removal and relocation of bees instead of extermination amid environmental concerns. Bees help pollinate crops and their honey can be sold.
