A North Texas mosque has been hit by about two dozen paintballs in an incident that some religious leaders want treated as a possible hate crime.
Officials with the McKinney Islamic Association didn't immediately return messages Monday about the defacing of the mosque.
Leaders of the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations want the incident treated as a possible hate crime. A statement from the group says the paintball attack happened late Saturday night or early Sunday.
The statement did not indicate that anyone was hurt or provide a damage estimate. A vehicle owned by a congregation member was also hit by a paintball. The group also says increased police patrols are expected.
McKinney police didn't immediate return a message Monday.
