The only reason Caldwell is still putting on "half" of the Kolache Festival is so they don't lose money. The vendors paid quite a bit of money for their spots. If they choose not to show up, then Caldwell keeps the money. If Caldwell cancels the Festival, then they have to give refunds to the vendors. Don't you just love how Caldwell puts money above the safety of people? Mr. Mayor, you should have postponed or cancelled the Kolache Festival this year. Shame on you.

The Hallaron Pool on Rock Prairie closed Thursday afternoon and all day today which is a bummer because it was and is really nice out. Friday will be a nice day too. Tomorrow will be wind and rain. Enjoy the weather, respect mother nature, and let go of the fear. Life is short enjoy what you have.

Caldwell folks: Lets not overlook the fact that Ike is shaping up JUST LIKE RITA DID a couple years ago. Everyone was hollering 'death and destruction' and we woke up the morning after Rita was supposed to hit and it was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL day. And if K-fest is cancelled it's not just the city government that will be affected. I grew up in Caldwell and and have seen the enormous economic impact it has on the city. Every hotel, restaurant, gas station, museum and shop is packed the second Saturday of September not to mention that it's bigger than homecoming for people who have lived in the community. For the past several years I've gone to K-fest to see friends, some of which I haven't seen since we graduated high school. So don't put away your "jak se mas" coozie just yet. We're still more than 20 hours away from kickoff.

What about the Democratic Women's Club Lunch?

Kolache Festival committee does not want to pay back all the vendors that have already paid, so they are saying it's still a go so they don't have to refund the money back to the vendors. I will not support thay event anymore!!

It's really a shame that money comes before safety. Most of the vendors have to drive from out of town? But since you are a small town, you gotta make the income anyway that you can.

What's with the Kolache Festival committee still kicking off at nine? What are those people thinking? It is an outdoor event and probably no one will show up. Good Luck Folks that go through all the trouble setting up and then having your stuff blown all over Kingdom Come.

who do they think will attend? soggy pastries are not very appealing

As far as I've heard, it is optional for vendors to come, but events will still take place.

It seems rather irresponsible that outdoor events like the Kolache festival in Caldwell and the Texas rally at Lake Somerville are taking such a wait and see attitude. Is it all about money vs safety? Are they really expecting people to come out in the expected conditions? These event organizers need to take a second look at their motivations and put safety first!

The Kolache festival is still on. If it gets rained out, they will be moving vendors inside the Courthouse.

As of now (12:45pm), www.burlesoncounty.com says the Kolache Festival is still on for Saturday. Are they CRAZY?!?!?! What vendor is going to try and set up a tent in the wind/rain and then what citizen is going to go visit said tent?!?! They should have postponed that event 2 days ago......
