Reserve Brazos County Deputy Jim Carter knows history is about to pass him by. And that's fine by him.

Carter is one of dozens of Brazos Valley law enforcement officers who'll be providing security for next week's presidential inauguration in Washington D.C.

His assignment is the parade, meaning his back will be turned to the festivities most of the day. "We'll get a chance to look over our shoulders and watch the parade a little bit," Carter said. "But our primary duty is to stand there and provide security for the parade."

Carter says he's looking forward to the trip and is honored to have been asked to serve.
