In her final interview segment with President and Mrs. Bush, Julie Hays with KWTX News 10 in Waco asks the first couple about their ties to Fort Hood and the the president's thoughts about one of his harshest critics.

JULIE
Have you ever invited any Fort Hood leaders out to the ranch to visit?

BUSH
I have not. That's an interesting point; I have been to Fort Hood a lot as president, as a matter of fact, I've been to church service there a number of times. I feel very strongly connected to Fort Hood and our United States Military. Ray Odierno reminded me, when I was in Iraq, reminded me of the time I gave to Fort Hood as Governor of Texas and... Ray Odierno was a colonel at Fort Hood, I think then and one of his responsibilities was to brief me on what's going on and then all of the sudden 12 years later, he and I are in Baghdad, Iraq talking about the future of Iraq and role of our troops in Iraq. So, I've had a lot of connections with a lot of the people who are generals who worked at Fort Hood.

JULIE
Do you feel a strong connection to Fort Hood, not only because it's the worlds largest military installation, but also because it's just down the road from the Western White House?

MRS. BUSH
We visited there a lot. We've been to Easter services there a couple of years and we do feel very close to it. George and I both feel very close to our military and we're so proud of the men and women who defend our country. We've gotten to know our military members all over the country, at Camp David as well as Fort Hood, including military bases overseas and we're very proud of our men and women in the military. They're awesome and they're really the very best of our country and we've gotten to see that.

JULIE
Cindy Sheehan... That happened there in Crawford outside the Western White House. Is there anything about the way you handled that that you would do differently?

BUSH
No, I get protested all the time and the great thing about this country is that it's a free place. So free, you can even protest the President and they did. First of all for her-- I understand her grief. She lost her son in Iraq and I had met with her son in Iraq and I had met with her, interestingly enough, in Fort Lewis, Washington, but she wanted to come and express her grief and anger and that was fine and that's what America was a lot about and she was well received by people of Crawford.

JULIE
What was it like for you to see your husband go through what he did at the height of the Cindy Sheehan protest there in Crawford?

MRS. BUSH
Well, that was very disappointing and upsetting for George and me both. That's the very, very difficult part of a war and for the Commander in Chief for putting our troops in harms way. The very, very sad part of the last 8 years. George and I have visited with many, many families of the fallen and we appreciate very much their sacrifice. We know how difficult it is and so those are very sad times.
