WASHINGTON -- Barack Hussein Obama has taken the oath of office as the 44th president of the United States.

With a hand on Abraham Lincoln's inaugural bible, and before a crowd stretching across the National Mall toward where Martin Luther King Jr. spoke of his dream of racial equality, the 47-year-old Obama was sworn in as the first black American president by Chief Justice John Roberts.

Roberts told him, "Congratulations, Mr. President."

Obama's wife, Michelle, and young daughters Sasha and Malia looked on. They were joined by people from around the world who gathered in huge numbers in the early morning Washington cold to see history made.

Obama told the world's Muslims that his administration will be looking for a "new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect."

And he's warning leaders around the globe who try to encourage conflict and "blame their society's ills on the West" that their people will judge them on what they build, not what they destroy.

In his address, Obama also pledged broader engagement in the world. Saying the people of the world should know that America is a friend of all who seek "a future of peace and dignity," Obama vowed that the U.S. is "ready to lead once more."

He's also pledging to "work alongside" the people of poor nations to make "farms flourish and let clean waters flow."

Obama is calling for a "new era of responsibility" in America.

Near the end of his address, Obama spoke of the need for every American to recognize duties to themselves, their nation and the world.

He calls it "the price and the promise of citizenship." And he says it's also the source of the nation's confidence - that "God calls on us to shape an uncertain destiny."

He told the crowd, "There is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task."

The following is the complete inaugural address of President Barack Obama:

My fellow citizens:

I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition.

Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because We the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forbearers, and true to our founding documents.

So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans.

That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.

These are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics. Less measurable but no less profound is a sapping of confidence across our land - a nagging fear that America's decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights.

Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America - they will be met.

On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.

On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.

We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.

In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned. Our journey has never been one of short-cuts or settling for less. It has not been the path for the faint-hearted - for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things - some celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their labor, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.

For us, they packed up their few worldly possessions and traveled across oceans in search of a new life.

For us, they toiled in sweatshops and settled the West; endured the lash of the whip and plowed the hard earth.

For us, they fought and died, in places like Concord and Gettysburg; Normandy and Khe Sahn.

Time and again these men and women struggled and sacrificed and worked till their hands were raw so that we might live a better life. They saw America as bigger than the sum of our individual ambitions; greater than all the differences of birth or wealth or faction.

This is the journey we continue today. We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions - that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America.

For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act - not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its cost. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories. And we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age. All this we can do. And all this we will do.

Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions - who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. Their memories are short. For they have forgotten what this country has already done; what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose, and necessity to courage.

What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them - that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply. The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works - whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end. And those of us who manage the public's dollars will be held to account - to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day - because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.

Nor is the question before us whether the market is a force for good or ill. Its power to generate wealth and expand freedom is unmatched, but this crisis has reminded us that without a watchful eye, the market can spin out of control - and that a nation cannot prosper long when it favors only the prosperous. The success of our economy has always depended not just on the size of our Gross Domestic Product, but on the reach of our prosperity; on the ability to extend opportunity to every willing heart - not out of charity, but because it is the surest route to our common good.

As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our Founding Fathers, faced with perils that we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake. And so to all the other peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to the small village where my father was born: know that America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman, and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and we are ready to lead once more.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with the sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

We are the keepers of this legacy. Guided by these principles once more, we can meet those new threats that demand even greater effort - even greater cooperation and understanding between nations. We will begin to responsibly leave Iraq to its people, and forge a hard-earned peace in Afghanistan. With old friends and former foes, we will work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat, and roll back the specter of a warming planet. We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense, and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.

For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus - and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.

To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West - know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.

To the people of poor nations, we pledge to work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds. And to those nations like ours that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to suffering outside our borders; nor can we consume the world's resources without regard to effect. For the world has changed, and we must change with it.

As we consider the road that unfolds before us, we remember with humble gratitude those brave Americans who, at this very hour, patrol far-off deserts and distant mountains. They have something to tell us, just as the fallen heroes who lie in Arlington whisper through the ages. We honor them not only because they are guardians of our liberty, but because they embody the spirit of service; a willingness to find meaning in something greater than themselves. And yet, at this moment - a moment that will define a generation - it is precisely this spirit that must inhabit us all.

For as much as government can do and must do, it is ultimately the faith and determination of the American people upon which this nation relies. It is the kindness to take in a stranger when the levees break, the selflessness of workers who would rather cut their hours than see a friend lose their job which sees us through our darkest hours. It is the firefighter's courage to storm a stairway filled with smoke, but also a parent's willingness to nurture a child, that finally decides our fate.

Our challenges may be new. The instruments with which we meet them may be new. But those values upon which our success depends - honesty and hard work, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism - these things are old. These things are true. They have been the quiet force of progress throughout our history. What is demanded then is a return to these truths. What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility - a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.

This is the price and the promise of citizenship.

This is the source of our confidence - the knowledge that God calls on us to shape an uncertain destiny.

This is the meaning of our liberty and our creed - why men and women and children of every race and every faith can join in celebration across this magnificent mall, and why a man whose father less than sixty years ago might not have been served at a local restaurant can now stand before you to take a most sacred oath.

So let us mark this day with remembrance, of who we are and how far we have traveled. In the year of America's birth, in the coldest of months, a small band of patriots huddled by dying campfires on the shores of an icy river. The capital was abandoned. The enemy was advancing. The snow was stained with blood. At a moment when the outcome of our revolution was most in doubt, the father of our nation ordered these words be read to the people:

"Let it be told to the future world...that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive...that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet [it]."

America. In the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.

Thank you. God bless you, and God bless the United States of America.

Please take this story off the page. It's two weeks old now. Where's the stories about BO's appointments? A tax evader for treasury secretary and an attorney general who pardons terrorists. No Republican votes in the House for his "stimulus" package. Nancy Pelosi defending millions for contraceptives. Come on, there's other news out there!

Good grief.. The only thing I'm tired of is the reference to the man's color! Heck, I don't care if he's black, white or PURPLE! The only thing that 'irks' me is for instance, in channel surfing a few days ago, phone rang, answered it, and the channel was on the 'BET' channel.. the African American lady that was talking, kept telling the crowd "well, we did it.. first black president.., etc".. that sickens me.. that the black community can ONLY see and probably ONLY voted to think they we're "sticking it to the white man".. gimme a break.. just the since of arrogance, instead of accomplishment! Reality check.. it was not YOUR back that the 'white man' beat, and it was not ME that did it!

Snopes (along with several other debunking sites) may be fun sites to check out urban legends, but don't confuse their presentation of opinion as fact, especially when it involves politics. Snopes is owned and operated by David and Barbara Mikkelson from California. She researches topics and posts her conclusions. Is there a liberal bias? To me it's obvious. The best approach is to not treat Snopes as the authority on a topic, but rather as just another source, to be viewed with healthy skepticism until corraborated elsewhere.

And to "worried" who said that the only states Obama won in were the states with the highest poverty and crime rates: Not true. Colorado has a very low poverty and crime rate, much lower than all of these southern states and he won Colorado. You know what else is funny? Not even Alaska voted for McCain/Palin. To all of you saying people only voted for him because of race: not true, not even close. There were more people that didn't vote for him because he's black. Either way, it's wrong to vote/not vote for someone because of race. You guys all really need to check out websites like snopes.com and see how many of the things you think about Obama aren't true...guarantee most of them are.

Hey TurnRight...I voted for him, I know about Rezko, Ayers and Odinga and guess what? I'm atheist. What's wrong with someone being a different religion? Honestly, even is he was Muslim (like you all probably still think), then what would honestly be wrong with that? Guess that's what growing up in Colorado taught me--tolerance. Everyone still complaining, get over it! He is your president and being that I supported Bush, myself and the rest of the Democrats would appreciate the same respect. I am sometimes sad to say that I share a community with people that can't even support someone who is their President and can't even give him a chance. That's all anyone asks for--just give him a chance before you hate him and make racist comments against him.

As President, the goal is to make America safer, smarter, and open to new prospects. With all Americans working together and supporting eachother this is possible. If we degrade one another and convince ourselves we are destined to fail than that shall occur. Let us unite and work hard. We should all stand and give of ourselves, smile at our neighbors, and offer a hand at every opportunity. Come on everyone, dont you see......

Correct me if I'm wrong but, didn't Martin L King say something about character vs color. Well I think the black population forgot that part of the famous philosopher because all we ever hear is black this and black that. Can't you people see that hard work, strong ethics, and compassion for all is the key to success not asking for hand outs and hating one another.....I wish the uneducated would shut up and let the educated make decisions or we are doomed. sorry but that is real!

Posted by: TurnRight on Jan 24, 2009 at 09:36 AM
Before the election, I argued with coworkers about Obama's policies and background. Those voting for him didn't know about his associations with Rezko, Ayers, or Odinga or that his parents and mentors growing up were atheist/communists, that he authored a bill in congress to send tax dollars abroad to curb global poverty or that he voted against banning partial birth abortion, or that while he preached about being "your brother's keeper" that his half brother lives in a mud hut on $10 a year and that he had an illegal aunt living in poverty in Boston. BUT, they knew that Sarah Palin's teenaged daughter was pregnant. Simple media malpractice. See howobamagotelected.com. Conservatives must stand on conservative principles and find leadership that will do the same, as we fight for this nation's survival.

Using my tax dollar to perform abortions world-wide is criminal. If you feel safer now that trials at Guatamao have been suspended and the prison will soon close along with several CIA stations, you're as naive as you are ignorant about how terrorists work. Obama - friend to terrorists - enemy of the unborn. Wouldn't it be great if the first black president actually had a moral compass?

Dee is correct. The man has NEVER had a real job where he had to get up out of bed in the morning, be on time, produce and answer to a demanding boss that expects results. We have high school kids in this community and all across the nation that have more work experience than Barrack. Probably a few in Junior high as well. You probably have had to work for a demanding tyrant at one time or another in your life. Barrack would not know what that is like. He was a "community organizer" which was a position created by other devout socialist that funneled a ton of money in his direction to further their agenda. After that it was off to the Senate and the White House. When I was in Second Grade, my teacher told me "Anybody can grow up to become president". I have finally realized, after all these years that she was 100% correct.

The election of Barrack Husein Obama is a blanket conviction of our public schools for failing to educate. Something is seriously wrong when a high school student only has a half semester of Government and 4 years of freaking English Literature. They are always touting Math and Science as well. Don't get me wrong, those things serve a purpose, but GOVERNMENT SUPERCEEDS THEM ALL! Many of those kids will never set foot on a college campus. If they go to college they have all the time in the world for Shakespeare, Homer and Einsteins theory of relativity. They need to know about our constitution, pork, courts and all of the under the table shady dealings that take place in Washington and Austin. Many people I have met can not even tell you the name of their state representative or name even one of their U.S. senators. With little doubt, you encounter such people on a regular basis as well.

It saddens my heart to read all of the negative comments made about someone who is the President of the United States. Perhaps if all of you who have so vehemtly conveyed the faults you find with our newly elected President would have paid that much more attention to the actions of our former President the nation might not be in such a deficit as it stands now. As much as we would like to believe racism no longer exists, it does and will for a long time as long as ignorant, uneducated individuals insist questioning someones ability in a position long before they (President Obama) has an opportunity to began a meek attempt at repairing what is so obvious, a nation in the midst of crisis. For the one who mentioned former President Lincoln earlier, a statement was once made by the fine gentleman who stated "It is better to not speak and to be thought a fool, then to open up ones mouth and prove right"

It is so sad to read the things that have been written on this blog in the past few days.I am sure that many are parents,or have some sort of contact with children. Yet you all decided to say some of the most foolish things possible. There are many things about the past and things that are going to happen in the future that none of us can control. It would seem to me that you would make an attempt to be civil. At the very least allow the children who will run the world, when many of us are too old walk faster than a shopping cart to enjoy the positive feel of this moment. It may even rub off on you. I know people have become jaded by life, because it is very tough right now. However that does not mean we should forget who we are. Most of if not all of you will attend church on sunday, please take the time to listen to the sermon. Most religions teach peace fo ALL.And just for the record black people never want special treatment, they just want to feel included in the "American Dream".

I didn't watch the inauguration on TV because, well, long drawn out things like that bore me, so I'm very glad that KBTX posted his speech for us all to read. I don't know how Barak Obama will do as our now President of the United States, but it's his time, and he'll have his chance to do so just like every other president before him. I hope that he does well and leads the country into abundance. Black or white or both, shouldn't matter to anyone really. Yes, it sorta says, "See, we elected a man that was at least half black so we're not all racist." but the thing should be, we elected as a nation, the man that we thought was best suited for the job. No matter if you like him or not, he's now our president and that is an office that should be respected by ALL Americans.

So I am talking about the now. Black is Black, White is White. Bi-racial is half of each. I am not supporting one more than the other. So get over yourself.

While serving in the Illinois state senate, Barrack Husein Obama introduced legislation that would have given burglars, rapists and other felony home invaders the right to sue the home owner if the home owner shot the invader. That speaks volumes about the type of people that Husein Obama panders to. The families of the thugs that engage in those activities do not want to see their sweet little angel blown away when he and his buddies kick down your door at 3:00AM. After all, the little rapist was working hard to get his life back together, got mixed up with "the wrong crowd" and just slipped. The little rapist was a popular star athlete, when a mean old drug dealer held him down and shoved crack down his throat. It was not his fault! He was planning to go back to school to get his GED and become a neurologist when the terrible accident happened. Anyone that would seek the votes of people that think like that has no morals or ethics. Fortunately, Obama's bill never became law.

I did not vote for Obama but to all you who are saying that he should not be considered black because he is half white & half black is oustrageous considering that way back then when there was a half black half white person they were still treated the same way that the all black people were treated. They were still not liked unless they they looked all white. So why now should Obama not be considered black? He would have been considered all black back then.

You are an idiot. the president was speaking to all americans, not just blacks. he encouraged everyone to be responsible and make this country better. you are just stereotyping. you probably grew up on hand outs yourself.remember that he is as much white as black and cares about that part of his culture too. he was speaking to all of us americans. you must be a redneck if you think all the problems are caused by blacks. check the welfare rolls and see how many whites are recieving government assistance and handouts. get a reality check. we are not looking at the color of his skin, but at the content of his character and what we percieve to be his ability to bring about change for all people.

i too am tired of people saying our first african american president. the man is just as much white as he is black. i am very happy that he made it this far, and proud of his accomplishment. i feel that he is intelligent and has the ability to talk with people in a way that they will want to listen and work things out. i would be even more happy if our next president is the son/daughter of two black parents. that would really be history. but again this man is as much white as he is black. he equally represents both races.i support him fully but not based on his skin color.

I first want to Thank You to "A Black Man" you are what this world should be all about. Everyone should be judged on their acts, not thier skin color. As for "Obama" paying $170 million for this inaugrual party...I don't think so. Folks, start watching your pay check, we (those of us who work) paid for that party! I hope Obamanation fails and falls flat on his face. If he accomplishes the things he has said he will (ban guns, increase taxes, give to those who don't work because they don't want to, and even be friends with terroist nations) then it will be a sad day in America. All day yesterday I felt like I was attending a funeral. I'm counting down the days until the next terrorist attack hits America...and it will.

It is racist to vote against someone because of their race. It is equally racist to vote for someone because of their race. With 96% of the black vote going for Obama, it is clear to me that we are a very long way off from becoming a color blind society and placing our racial problems behind us.

To Robert: It is a fact that the Congress (the House of Representatives and the Senate) were BOTH controlled by REPUBLICANS from 1994 to 2006. That means that Bill Clinton had a Republican controlled COngress who made the laws and were in control. It also means that George W. Bush--a Republican president-- had COMPLETE POWER from 2000 to 2006. Judginfg from the ruin of our country under George W. Bush and the Republican Congress, it is true that ABSOLUTE POWER corrupts ABSOLUTELY. It is the Republicans in power who have brought America to ruin, not the Democrats.

If you took away all the votes in the last election that were made because of race, the winner would have been Obama in a landslide. You who are prone to revising history have already forgotten that the Republicans made a much bigger deal about race than Obama did. He's black. He's white. Whatever. He's President. And you're not.

You stated "Obama, He can't do any worse that all the other presidents have done". Well, I readily admit that Jimmy Carter, Woodrow Wilson and Herbert Hoover have some very large shoes to fill, when we talk about bad presidents. Don't get me wrong. I have full faith in Barry and his ability to mess things up. I just think he will have to try very hard to top the three losers I mentioned above. Barry will probably be about as bad as left wing, liberal, socialist, radical, fanatic FDR. For those of you that voted for Barry, FDR was a guy that occupied the oval office in the 1930's. He was born in New York in the 1880's and was the 32nd occupant of the oval office.

Why is he referred to as the first African-American President? He is just as much White as he is African - American. In reality he is the first half black and half white President. When you have a man which has a black mother and father, then you can say "he is the first African-American" President. Until then he is equally white and black, no more one than the other.

Wouldn't even recite The Lord's Prayer during the inauguration ceremony? I heard on the news the other night that since being elected Obama has admitted that he will not be able to fix any of the current problems during his term. What? I thought that was one of your promises? Face it people, Bush did not create these problems on his own. Who spends $150 million on an inauguration celebration when you're already in a recession? Who get's the pleasure of paying for that? I'm afraid to pay into 401k in fear that it will not be there when and if I am ever able to retire. God Help Us.

Obama is our the President now, and in that, I wish him well and pray that we can all come together and get back to where America should be. I do want to point out, however, that the state of our economy is not Bush's fault entirely; it takes the House of Representatives, the Senate, AND the President to create laws and put them into action. Our economy is also somewhat dependant on trade with economies of the many other nations we deal with. There has been a global economic problem that has lent a hand in our current economic state. Please wake up and realize that Bush did not single-handedly create this, and Obama will not single handedly fix it! Sure, Bush had a hand in some legislation that didn't turn out so well...but so did hundreds or thousands of others. And for those who think that the "years of stupid, incompetence, corruption, and criminal behavior" ended yesterday, look at the soon-to-be the chairman of the Fed. and Hillary's huge conflict of interest as Sec. of State!

The president is not going to reach in to his wallet and give you, me or anyone else a dime. What will happen is the IRS will forcibly extort money from those of us that work for a living and redistribute it to those that are too lazy or too ignorant to become self sufficient. You know the type. They can name every player on their favorite NFL team, but they can not find the team's home city on a map! All an honest American wants is to keep what he or she lawfully earned. On an additional note, the fact that the president is black is not an issue to educated people. If I run for office and the only reason you can find to vote for me is the color of my skin I do not want your vote. I would want voters to make an informed decision, based on my voting record, personal life, habits, accomplishments and failures in life. It is very sad to see people like you pulling the race card out from where the sun never shines. It is time to bring back literacy tests for voters. Get a life, mooch.

Why don't we just give the man a chance to see if he can turn the country around? Gandhi said that if just 10% of the world would meditate (pray) then we would have world peace. Could we bring such a thing to our own country by being positive about what we think and do, by being prayerful for our leadership? When we think about being Christian, one of the things we think about is our ability to ask God to guide our leaders. Why pray for his good and then speak to his condemnation? Christians, wake up! The time is not to condemn but to pray. Let us be the reflection of Christ rather than one of those temple Pharisees. And if God can use Mr. Obama to turn around our country, perhaps he too will sway the hearts of his party members and many others who are skeptics in our own time.
