Weight loss can be a challenge for even the most disciplined of people. Dr. John Mason explains a new, less invasive way of losing weight through the Sleeve Gastrectomy.

The Sleeve Gastrectomy is a new procedure for weight loss. It is a restrictive procedure, but a different type of restriction. Restriction, not by size of food particles, but by restricting the actual capacity of the stomach so that one can consume a greater variety of food choice but be satisfied with a smaller amount.

It’s also a procedure that reduces hunger by eliminating a portion of the stomach that produces a hormone called Ghrelin. Ghrelin is produced in the fundal portion of the stomach, the upper bulbous part of the stomach, and when that is secreted makes you hungry. Without that, you do not think about food, and you don’t miss food.

The inlet to the stomach is the same size as it has always been, so a person can still eat the same types of food that they eat now, but a lesser volume.
