Coronary Artery Disease is the leading cause of death in men and women in the United States today, but it can be prevented… Dr. Mario Lamoglia explains.
What do we mean by Coronary Disease? It’s not, per se, you have a “disease” but that you have blockages in the Coronary Arteries. The arteries that supply blood flow to the actual heart muscle. These are the arteries that if become severely blocked off, or completely blocked off can lead to a heart attack or could cause symptoms of Angina or chest pain due to decrease blood flow to the heart muscle itself.
There are different types of stress tests that we can perform on patients. The most accurate stress test available today is the PET Scan. It is the most accurate tool in diagnosing Coronary Disease or blockages. It tells us if there might be the development of blockages in the Coronary Arteries or if there is any significant blockages, enough to limit blood flow to the heart muscle.
