Two of the most exciting technologies on the forefront of spine surgery are Artificial Disc Replacement and various types of minimally invasive approaches to the low back.

And by that I mean that we do the same surgeries as we did before, but we do it with a lot less blood loss and a lot quicker recovery time.

Artificial Disc Replacement is when we remove worn out discs and replace them with artificial joints. Much like a knee replacement for a worn out knee.

There are a lot of different types of minimally invasive procedures for the low back. Some of them that address the very lowest part of our spines, just above our pelvis, were some of the hardest surgeries to get to, simply because they were in difficult locations to reach. Nowadays, with different approaches, we really have been able to reach them through completely new avenues and some of the hardest back surgeries have become some of the easiest back surgeries.
