Arts Council of the Brazos Valley
Today at the OPAS Guild Annual Meeting held at the Arts Council of the Brazos Valley in College Station, OPAS Guild President Bonnie Kistler presented a check for $90,000 on behalf of the OPAS Guild to Anne Black, MSC-OPAS Executive Director. The money represents the fund-raising efforts of the OPAS Guild in the 2007-2008 season at its phenomenally successful OPAS Guild Gala. The contribution represents a new record contribution from the OPAS Guild. Since its start in 1973, the OPAS Guild has raised and donated $840,000 to MSC-OPAS.
Bonnie Kistler noted part of the money would be used by MSC-OPAS to help underwrite OPAS Jr. performance and other programming for children here in the Brazos Valley. She thanked all the Guild members and everyone who helped by supporting the Guild for making this year’s Gala a great success.
“We raised a record amount at the Gala this year. Our donation to MSC-OPAS will help the children of the Brazos Valley enjoy plays, musicals, and opera. It will also help the teachers teach through music. Each year, MSC-OPAS is able to bring up to 6,000 grade school children to performances. Many of the children have never seen a live show,” indicated President Bonnie Kistler.
Anne Black, Executive director of MSC-OPAS, thanked the Guild for their continued support. Contributions from the Guild have helped keep the cost of OPAS Jr. programming affordable, and have helped us bring additional programs for children to local schools.
