Today, June 4, 2009, at 1:30pm the Bryan Police Department will swear in the newest members of the Bryan PD family. The seven new officers are:
Brandon Suehs, 25, from Caldwell, Texas
Chase McConnell, 24, from Magnolia Texas
Scott Helms, 26, from Monroe, North Carolina
Joseph Workman, 27, from Snook, Texas
Aaron Arms, 24 from San Antonio, Texas
Stacey Dowling, 28, Jackson, Michigan
Michael Houk, 27, from Palm Bay, Florida
Each officer successfully passed a written exam, a fitness assessment, and completed an extensive hiring process including a thorough background screening process. These seven individuals were selected to become Bryan Police Cadets and attend the police academy. They all successfully completed an eighteen week course of instruction provided by the Central Texas Police Academy and a licensing exam provided by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education. As a result of their efforts they have been commissioned as Peace Officers in the Great State of Texas but more importantly as Police Officers in the City of Bryan.
The seven new officers will now enter an 18 week Field Training Program. In the Field Training Program new officers will work with a number of seasoned training officers who are tasked with providing extensive training in areas such as departmental policy, community interaction and report writing skills. Upon completion of the Field Training Program they will be assigned to an overlapping patrol team called the Power Shift. The Power Shift provides guidance from senior officers and close supervision until they are placed on a permanent shift. Each Officer remains on probationary status for 18 months from their date of hire.
