The Brazos Valley Council of Government Executive Director Tom Wilkinson, Jr. was named “2009 Boss of the Year” by the Better Business Bureau at the BBB Annual Open House.
Wilkinson, who has been Executive Director of the BVCOG for the past seventeen years, was one of 19 nominees considered for the award. The Boss of the Year is an annual event, held in conjunction with the Better Business Bureau Open House. Nominations are submitted by employees, and then are voted on by those attending the event.
“I am very grateful to the employees of BVCOG for their talent and service to our region.” Wilkinson said. “I appreciate that they think I am deserving of Boss of the Year and for their support every day.”
“Tom is forward thinking, not satisfied with being just average. He strives to be inclusive. The seven-county region is better for it! I’m glad to work with someone who sees things differently and then encourages us to achieve more,” said Michael Parks, Assistant Executive Director of BVCOG.
Dave Fox, BBB Chairman of the Board, stated, “It is a real pleasure to have Tom as the recipient of the Boss of the Year. This award is an integral part of our Open House each year. It gives employees an opportunity to honor their bosses and gives the BBB an opportunity to honor those individuals who are an important part of the local business community.” Mr. Wilkerson will also be honored at an upcoming city council meeting with a proclamation in his honor.
Previous winners include Dr. Bill Birdwell, DDS; Celia Goode-Haddock, University Title Company; Drs. Jim and Karen Arents, Care Plus Dental; Steve Harper, Brazos Valley Bank; and David Watkins, City of Bryan.
