Volunteer donors and partners of the Be the Match Registry in the Central Texas area will be honored by the S&W Marrow Donor Program at the Be the Match Hero Bash on Tuesday December 1st at the College Station Hilton by 6 pm.
The first- of- its- kind hero bash will be an opportunity to show appreciation to honorees for their commitment, compassion and courage in saving several lives and giving hope to multiple patients requiring marrow transplant. These volunteers are heroes, who have given themselves to a cause bigger than themselves and rise to the occasion of saving lives when called upon; and according to the words of Tom Brokaw, Heroes are people who rise to the occasion and quietly slip away, they are often not noticed by many.
The event will recognize these honorees for all they do to help promote marrow donation to patients. It promises to be full of excitement, appreciation and great stories featuring one of the marrow donors from the Bryan/ College Station area who will be meeting for the first time her marrow donor recipient.
The S&W Marrow Donor Program was founded as a network partner of the National Marrow Donor Program about 15 years ago and serves as a donor center covering all of central Texas. Its partners provide year-round assistance in holding drives and recruitment events that are focused on expanding the Be the Match marrow registry, providing every patient with marrow-requiring conditions a chance of receiving marrow transplant from unrelated donors.
