On January 14, 2010 at 6:30pm, the Bryan Police Department swore in Darrel Fikes as a Reserve Officer. Fikes is no stranger to law enforcement. Fikes spent over 6 years as a Deputy Constable in Nueces County and hired on with the Bryan Police Department in 1997. Fikes was most recently one of the major crimes Detectives in the Criminal Investigation Division. Fikes left the Police Department to pursue interests outside law enforcement in December 2009. Law enforcement is in Fikes’ blood and he was unable to leave law enforcement altogether. Officer Fikes will continue to serve the City of Bryan as a Reserve Officer within the Bryan Police Department’s Reserve Unit.
Members of the Reserve Unit are made up of community members who have careers outside of the Bryan Police Department, but unselfishly give of their time and efforts to serve as police officers for the City of Bryan. The Reserve Unit is comprised of licensed, non-compensated peace officers that dedicate their personal time to assist the department in any capacity designated by the administration.
Reserve Officers supplement the full-time officers in a variety of duties throughout the department. Their responsibilities include assisting the department with its missions of preserving the peace, enforcing the laws, and responding as needed for police emergencies. They patrol in vehicles, on foot patrols, or on bicycle patrol. This program is an opportunity for individuals who have an established career but do not wish to make a full transition to full-time Police Officer. Reserve Officers can enjoy the best of both worlds - maintain their chosen career while helping make the community a safer place to live.
If you are interested in becoming a Reserve Officer for the City of Bryan Police Department, please contact Lt. Jim Stewart at 979-209-5370 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Together we can make a difference in our community.
