Zoe Lorrainie (Hughes) O'Neill

Zoe Lorraine (Hughes) O'Neill, 90, of McAlester, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 14, 2012.
Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester, Okla. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Arlington Funeral Home, 1221 E. Division St., Arlington, Texas. 817-548-1791





Zoe was born Feb. 13, 1922, in McAlester, Okla. to Clifford R. Hughes and Gertrude Grace Coppedge and graduated from McAlester Senior High School in 1939. On Aug. 28, 1940, she married James A. O'Neill of Seminole. They married in Kingfisher and were married for 50 years.





She continued her education and graduated with honors from Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College (now Oklahoma State University) in 1947 with a degree in English. She later earned a Master's of Elementary Education from North Texas State University in 1959. In addition to her many wonderful attributes, Zoe was a dedicated educator who spent her career teaching third and fourth graders in Arlington, Texas.





In retirement, she was a wonderful, supporting wife, mother and grandmother.




She was preceded in death by her Parents, Clifford and Gertrude Hughes and husband, James A. O'Neill.
Survivors include her son, James Michael O'Neill Sr., and his wife, Louise D.; grandson, James Michael O'Neill Jr. and his wife, Lynn (Bunch); granddaughter, Julia L. (O'Neill) Anderson and husband, Louis C.; and great-grandchildren, Louis Jacob Anderson, Leah Lorraine Anderson and Luke Alexander O'Neill.
