Alfred John Schwartz, 92, of Houston, passed away Thursday morning, September 27, 2012 at the HealthSouth Rehab Center in The Woodlands, Texas. A graveside memorial will be held at a later date at College Station City Cemetery.

Alfred was born June 24, 1920 in College Station to Charles and Frances (Hrdlicka) Schwartz. He graduated from A&M Consolidated in 1938. After the war, he completed his studies at Texas A & M and graduated with a bachelor's degree in science in 1949. Work would lead him to Houston.

Alfred enjoyed all things in nature. He was an avid painter of local flora and vigorously studied many diverse subjects from Native Americans to various species of animals. He was a student of history and enjoyed working on the family tree. He was a devoted brother and uncle and will be missed by all.

Alfred is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Elizabeth; and brothers, Lewis, Charles, Jr., Robert, Richard, and Thomas.

Survivors include a brother, Edward Schwartz and his wife, Renee, of Bellaire, Texas; one sister, Joretta Schneider of Houston; three sisters-in-law, Judith Schwartz of Austin, Josephine Schwartz of Houston, and Martha Schwartz of Bryan. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks go to Vitas Hospice of Houston and especially to his caregiver Sherice Fennell who took such good care of him.
